Mounting Rail Issues For Dell, IBM & Compaq

The mounting brackets for our cabinets, are all M6 mounting types. We have not seen any issues with servers that mount in this style. Just check with your vendor and specify M6.

Open Rack

When you purchase rails for your servers to be mounted in the open racks, you need to specify that the rails must be capable of mounting in a EIA 4 post type C rack, not just rack mounted.

It wouldn't be an issue, except that instead of an "L" shaped rail in each corner, we have a "[" shaped rail. The rail kits are being blocked by that second surface on the backside of each post.

If you force the rail to mount, it deforms the slides and won't allow the server to install at all. We have seen this issue with Dell and Penguin Computing Servers.

Example of the C type racks

For Dell servers, you must specify on your Dell order that you need the mounting type to go into a C type 4 post open rack and they will sell you a product from Rack Solutions that will allow their server mounts to fit in these type of mounting with no issue.

This bracket will be a M6 type mount and the bracket will fit into the EIA mount and the M6 will clip into that. It works very well and this is what we recommend for a proper mount.
Or you can go to Rack Solutions and get them there if you already have purchased the server.

When mounting IBM and Compaq servers using the EIA Versi-rails mounting kits that come with their EIA kit, there are no issues in mounting it in the open rack.
